SD County Fair 2016
Our annual performance at the Del Mar Fairgrounds was another hit!
For the first time we had "Book-Back Recitals". Students had to choose a solo piece that was at least seven pieces back from their current working piece. They were able to use more advanced technique, such as vibrato, on a piece they knew so well. They were also allowed to make their own variation of the piece if they wanted, such as changing the key and playing all up-bow staccato.
These recitals were the most confident and creative we've ever had!
Ms. Caitlin was able to arrange through her connections a tour of the Balboa Theater in downtown San Diego, originally built in 1924. It hosts each year major professional musical and comedic productions. We learned its history and the kids were lucky enough to play a few songs on stage!
Our advanced violin students open the Unity in Diversity 2015 world dance festival at the Poway Performing Arts Center with the Indian and US national anthems. While waiting to perform we like to play fiddle tunes backstage.
Another amazing student has joined our 365 Day Practice Club. Congratulations, Chisato Kamakura, on all your hard work this past year!

Diwali, Festival of Lights in Balboa Park - 10/18/14
We were honored to have our advanced violin and cello students invited for the first time to perform at Balboa Park's Organ Pavilion for Diwali, the festival marking the beginning of the Hindu new year. We played a couple of pieces from our Suzuki repertoire and the Indian national anthem. It was exciting playing for a well-attended audience on a large stage.
Every year all of our students are encouraged to attend a music camp or institute. The local Suzuki day camp, Strings by the Sea, is popular with many. (fun class pictured left)
Kids enjoy taking classes with wonderful non-local teachers, as well as non-Suzuki courses. Eva Gomez, pictured below, "had a fabulous experience" at Green Mountain Suzuki institute in Vermont, according to her mom.
